End of the 2010's

End of the Decade
By Brendan Dickinson
Husky Herald Report

With the decade coming to an end, the students at Northern reminisce about some of their treasured memories. These memories will stick with the students till the end of time as it was the majority of their childhoods.
The 2010’s brought along some crazy trends that have been followed all around the world. There are too many to count, but some stuck out more than others.
When Sara Barr (‘20) was asked about her favorite trend, she was reminded of an earlier time of her life. “My favorite trend was silly bands. My sister Natalie and I would collect them all when we were younger,” said Barr.
Cass Dombrowlski (‘21) on the other hand, thought of a more recent trend. “I think dabbing is the best. It was the best when Squidward did it at the parade,” said Dombrowlski.
Another thing that came along with the 2010’s was plenty of songs. From the beginning of the decade to the end, there have been songs that have shook the world.
Some of these songs came from earlier in the decade. “I think the biggest song of the decade was Gangnam Style. Back in 2012 literally everyone was listening to it,” said Barr.
Dombrowlski also had an earlier song in mind. “Friday by Rebecca Black was definitely the biggest song. She is the epitome of a one hit wonder,” said Dombrowlski.
Steven Fleet (‘21) believes the biggest song of the decade was something more recent. “Old Town Road was hands down the biggest song. It has been played more than any other song ever,” said Fleet.
Throughout the past ten years many shows have come and gone as well. With the growing popularity of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, students from Northern have been able to watch their favorite shows time and time again.
Many of the popular shows from the decade were shows that the students at Northern grew up on. “I loved watching Victorious. I’m so happy it’s on Netflix now,” said Barr.
Other ground-breaking shows during the decade were for a more mature audience. “Breaking Bad was definitely the best show, I wish it wasn’t cancelled,” said Fleet.
The trends, music, and shows of the decade were some of the things that made decade so amazing. Regardless of what the next decade has in store, the 2010’s will always be remembered as a special time.

Hilbrandt said, “Honestly, it wasn’t that funny. I was just trying to make a joke about a trend that was currently going on.”
“ I think of something that people have never seen before, yet something you would love to see more of.” said Hilbrandt
“I add a catchy sound to the video. It allows for a higher chance or getting on the for you page.”
Most Tiktokers are never sure which video will blow up as well as why it got as many views as it did.
